Marine Stewardship Counsel (MSC)
Marine Stewardship Counsel (MSC) is an internationally recognised standard applicable for the entire chain of custody relevant to fishery, commonly referred to as “vessel to plate". Adopting the standard allows those organizations within the seafood supply chain to showcase sustainable fishing practices. The 3 principle practices in MSC are:
Sustainable Fish Stock
Minimizing Environmental Impact
Effective Fishery Management
The MSC Chain of Custody (CoC) standard is for most, if not all seafood suppliers around to world. Each company in the supply chain handling certified seafood therefore needs to demonstrate that certified products are traceable and kept separate from non-certified products. The CoC has been designed so different type of companies can adopt it, whether they are single businesses in the supply chain, multi-site businesses or companies, who sell directly to the customers.
